The Fairchester Hose Haulers of the Hudson Valley is a relatively new chapter of the Society for the Preservation and Appreciation of Antique Fire Apparatus (SPAAMFAA). The new chapter was a rebirth of the original Fairchester Hose Haulers formed in the early 1970’s. A handful of original members along with some new applied to SPAAMFAA in 2014 for and was granted the Fairchester name as a chapter in the Hudson Valley region.
The original Westchester chapter of the Fairchester Hose Haulers had a muster every year in the 1970s that drew more than 10,000 visitors. The show was held in Valhalla, NY at the Kensico Dam Plaza in late June and quickly grew into the nation’s largest, drawing upwards of 200 rigs. The Muster eventually out grew the location. Due to high fuel prices, insurance costs and other reasons the chapter was disbanded in the early ’80s. The new Fairchester members are carrying on the traditions of preserving the old rigs and attending parades, musters and shows.
The new Fairchester was selected as the host chapter for the 2016 SPAAMFAA National Summer Muster. Our 1st SPAAMFAA national muster was a Great success, we hosted over 100 pieces of apparatus from all parts of the US and Canada at our Headquarters in Middletown, NY.
